Is CBD Here for the Long-Haul or Just Trendy?

CBD is seemingly everywhere in and around the beauty world. Is this trendy ingredient here for the long-haul or over-hyped?

The hot ingredient taking over the beauty industry is made up of just three letters, CBD. From drugstores to high-end beauty, CBD is dominating our favorite products. Is it worth all of the hype, or is it just a trend? The truth is, it actually has some really great benefits without any of the psychoactive effects of THC. A few benefits include aiding with various anxiety disorders and pain relief, but it’s also an acne-fighting anti-inflammatory when used in a beauty regime. For any CBD newbie, it all seems a tad intimidating. After incorporating CBD products into my own routine, I can safely say that the benefits are amazing. Whether it’s in the form of an oil, gummy, capsule, or infused into your favorite makeup product, it is time to decipher if the hype is actually worth it.

What is CBD?

Formally known as cannabidiol, CBD is the second most active ingredient derived from the hemp plant. If THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, found in cannabis hinders the desire to venture into the world of CBD, don’t worry cannabidiol won’t have those same effects. Because CBD is not psychoactive, so you won’t have any of the effects of a high. Although hemp is part of the cannabis family, most CBD products are derived from hemp.

The Benefits of CBD

Maybe the reason CBD seems to be in so many beauty products these days is because of the real benefits it has. There are studies showing that it aids generalized anxiety disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic pain, and arthritis. The benefits don’t stop there. In terms of beauty and skincare, CBD is an anti-inflammatory, soothes acne, and is acne-fighting. The National Center for Biotechnology Information conducted a study in 2014 showing evidence that CBD actually contains properties that help regulate oil production in the skin through your sebaceous glands. Yes, this means it can help fight potential breakouts caused by oil overproduction. Although CBD is not some magic cure-all, it does have some pretty great benefits.

Why is it popular in makeup?

CBD is becoming a popularized buzz word within the beauty and health industries and has made its way onto the labels of many of our favorite brands. Many brands are riding the coattails of the trend, while others truly understand the ways it can benefit you in your makeup or skincare routines. CBD may be trendy and up and coming, but you can’t deny that the benefits seem really cool. Either way, you’ll never know if it’s worth the hype unless you try it for yourself.
